I’ve shot John John before for the cover of his debut album.
After enjoying my last portrait session with the icelight knock-offs I thought I’d explore what they could give me further. I really enjoyed using the gel on the backlight to make it closer to a tungsten white balance and leaving the front light bare. These images were shot with a Fujifilm X-Pro1. I brought along the Funjinon XF 35 f/1.4 and Fujinon XF 55-200 3.5-4.8. We ended up looking at a few of the shooting spaces in Lime.tt’s offices and ended up clearing a small space and shooting against one of the very purple walls. On hindsight, I need a couple more of these lights to really work a portrait session. Shooting f/4 on both lenses at 1600 gave me 1/50th, which meant I couldn’t get tack sharp images if John John moved too much. So the main task was to get him into a pose and have him keep it fairly still, while making sure he didn’t look TOO stiff or the pose seem to contrived.
Shot for the cover and accompanying article in LIMERS magazine.
